Everybody wants to provide some App for their
business - but how do you turn this into a usefull strategy and how
do you handle the technical development problems behind? The other
side of the "App" is is more and more provided by the "cloud". And
the cloud sees some dramatic changes, especially in the network
areas due to its success. And finally: there is "art" in programming
- but how does it relate to efficient and professional programming?
Is there a combination possible? These are the topics of our 9th IBM
Day.
Join us for the talks from Peter Kutschera, Peter Demharter and Thomas Wappler.

There is no end to the changes brought
by web and internet to our society. For a while it looked like
interaction would move completely into social networks and virtual
worlds. Now it looks like a host of new social instruments are being
created in the real world - of course with heavy backing by Web2.0
driven collaboration software. Meet bibcamps, breedcamps etc.,
discuss the current state of blogging and its political relevance or
see visionary business ideas like publishing pipelines or methods
for identity in the web. Like the Web Days before this one will
include both technical and social topics and there will be ample
opportunity to discuss the future of the web and the internet. And
there is lots to talk about like pressure from social networks on
members, attempts to regulate the internet by governments or
providers and so on.

Our development day showed why agile people need agile methods and languages. There is a tight connection between agility and tools. Read on why I think we lost the agility and what can be done about it.
Our first developers day has its focus on agile development. Read on why this is not a new fad but has always existed. Still, it is getting more popular nowadays, perhaps due to the ever increasing weight of .NET and J2EE, Java and C++ etc. Learn alternative ways to program fast, agile solutions and have fun doing so. But perhaps you are a manager? Learn how agile methods might save your project. You don't have to be an expert developer to profit from this day.

A few words on the 10th BSI conference at Bonn-Bad Godesberg.
Just a few comments on our most successful games day ever.
There where quite some things to learn from our Games Day. E.g. how distributed the reality of games development already is, how audio and sound work in games, how to program the cell chip and finally how to organize a huge game project at HDM.
The second Games Day will put the focus on "positive" aspects of computer games, with the help of Dr. Reinhard-Hauck from PH Ludwigsburg.
Presentations will cover technology, arts and economics behind games development: cell chip internals, audio and sound in games, game economics and a large game project. Louis Natanson from our partner university Abertay will present studies in games development and creativity.
15.12.2006, 9.00 at HDM Nobelstrasse 10, room 056, open to the public and free of charge. See HDM Homepage for directions and program

Our IBM Global Services Method Workshop has always been very popular and successful. In its third installment it includes some very ambitious goals. Using
the merger of two banks as an example Bernard Clark will demonstrate how a transformation to
service-oriented architecture can be done. Governance will be a big topic of the workshop as well.
Starting Friday 28.4.06, 9.00 in room 148.
Things seem to get worse instead of better. Longer development cycles, permanent stability problems, performance
issues and logic errors. In our workshop we will try to find some causes for those problems as well as possible solutions. We will especially track the
dependencies between process, organization and architecture - something most methodologies seem to disregard completely. Guests and speakers from the industry
will provide essential input. The workshop is free but registration via e-mail is requested.
January 26, 2006, 13.00-18.00 please find the program and location information here. And afterwards you can attend to the Media Night at HDM and take a look at all the projects done here (computer science, media, print, information management and design, usability etc).
Sense-making is a core human ability. It allows us to react on new events. Sense-making will also become a neccessary technical feature for machines if we want to really use the massive amount of information online.
November 18th Uwe Laufs of Fraunhofer IAO will give an overview of the current state of semantic and ontology research in our "Current Topics" course at HDM.
The program of our "Current Topics" course is now available. Covered are new developments in media and content management, enterprise architectures and process modelling with its associated technologies of semantics, ontologies, and meta-modeling. A special focus is on model-driven development and its effects on quality and testing. Two major events will be included. One is the second IBM university day at HDM with a host of excellent speakers and the second a workshop on quality, testing and model-driven tools to improve the situation in software developments.
The IBM university day is also announced at the HDM Homepage . All talks and workshops are open to the interested public at no costs.
Peer-to-peer architecture provides interesting services like fully de-centralized auctions and advertisements. But what happens if you mix this exciting technology with an open service oriented architecture which is about to become the next big thing for automotive, homes and industry? The Open Service Gateway Initiative (OSGI) can make good use of P2P as Markus Block and Ronald Kutschke will show. They are currently doing their thesis at the HDM and in the industry in the areas of JXTA and OSGI and are the authors of tradingcenter, an award winning platform for e-auctions.
September 8, 2005, please find the program and location information here.
